Heikki Peltomaa to continue as Chair of Renewables Finland

4.5.2026

Renewables Finland has elected a new board for the 2026–2027 term at its Annual General Meeting. At the board’s constitutive meeting, Heikki Peltomaa, CEO of wpd Finland, was re-elected as Chair for the fifth time. Renewables Finland is an advocacy organisation for utility-scale wind and solar power, as well as related energy storage solutions. The new board takes office at a time when the role of renewable energy is becoming increasingly important both nationally and globally.

The new board begins its work in a context where energy availability and price have become key issues, partly due to geopolitical uncertainty. Electricity demand is growing rapidly, driven especially by data centres and the electrification of industry. At the same time, the need to quickly increase cost-effective domestic power production is rising. Wind and solar power play a central role in meeting this demand in both Finland and Europe.

“Renewable energy already accounted for more than a quarter of Finland’s electricity consumption last year, and the share will continue to grow. At the same time, political decision-making is placing new restrictions on project development and introducing retroactive requirements for existing projects. Ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections, it is important to ensure that policymakers understand the opportunities of renewable energy and to build a strong foundation for the next government programme,” says Peltomaa.

Jenny-Li Holmström, Head of Legal at Taaleri Energia, will continue as Vice Chair. She has been actively involved in the association’s Board and committees since 2013.

“Electricity demand will increase significantly in the coming years. After a quieter period, this will lead to a new phase of growth in renewable energy construction. The electricity market is cyclical, and the Board will focus on ensuring that the sector is ready to respond by delivering new clean, affordable and self-sufficient energy supply quickly,” Holmström says.

The board of Renewables Finland brings together broad expertise in the development, permitting, financing and construction of wind and solar projects.
