For the first time in 2020, more than half of Finland’s electricity production was generated from renewable energy sources. The amount of electricity generated by wind power increased by 32 % from the previous year.
In 2020, 66,6 TWh electricity was produced in Finland of which 34,7 TWh was generated from renewable energy resources. This corresponds to 52 % of Finland’s electricity production.
Due to relatively warm weather and the corona pandemic in 2020, electricity consumption was lower than before. In the current decade, however, society will continue to electrify.
“Wind power is a fast, affordable and domestic way to build new clear electricity production”, says Anni Mikkonen, CEO of the Finnish Wind Power Association.
