Association

Renewables Finland is a wind and solar power industry advocacy organization founded in 1988, which paves the way for Finnish wind and solar power and shares information on current issues in the field.

The board of the association meets eight to ten times per year to discuss wind power advocacy, current affairs and to make decisions about the work of the association. In addition to the board, the association has five working groups that examine technical or policy advocacy issues. The annual general meeting takes place each spring around March.

Comittees

In addition to the Board, the association has seven committees:

Communications Committee
The association’s communications committee supports the planning of communications, prepares communication guidelines, and participates in practical communication activities. This includes contributing to campaigns or sharing industry-wide messages on their own social media channels. Participation in the communications committee does not require being a communications professional – insights and expertise from wind power industry professionals are just as valuable when shaping the industry’s communications.

Grid Committee
The Grid Committee is divided into working groups, which promote jointly agreed topics. The working groups focus on the reform of the Electricity Market Act, the electricity grid and its development, the grid rules for electricity planning for renewable energy, including the VJV2024 and SJV2024 requirements, and offshore wind planning and grid capacity. The offshore wind working group will share the burden by meeting with the Offshore Wind Committee to make the best use of the expertise of the two committees.

Offshore Wind Committee
As its name suggests, the Offshore Wind Committee focuses on issues relating to the promotion of offshore wind energy and the conditions for its construction. Standard topics on the Committee’s list include the promotion of reasonable property tax rates for offshore wind, influencing the EEZ law and decree, national offshore wind targets and the challenges of offshore wind grid connection. In addition, the committee meets regularly to discuss issues arising in project development, research topics, environmental impacts and other topics raised by members.

Onshore Wind Committee
The Onshore Committee supports the board by defining the association’s and the wind power sector’s positions on various advocacy issues related to wind energy development. The committee also aims to anticipate future challenges that could potentially hinder the smooth permitting and construction of wind energy, and to prevent harmful escalation of these issues in public debate through proactive, joint advocacy.

Production Committee
Production Committee focuses on issues related to the production phase of wind and solar power. The committee is responsible for advocacy on market and production stage issues. The issues addressed by the Production Committee range from grid constraints to the electricity market model. Technical issues related to production are the responsibility of the Technical Task Force.

Solar Power Committee
Focuses on policy and advocacy topics related to the solar power sector. The Committee works on positions related to current regulatory issues and discusses solutions to e.g. strengthen the viability of solar power. New practices in a rapidly developing sector are often discussed. The Committee also contributes to the conceptualisation of events and communication needs related to solar power.

Technical Taskforce
Technical Task Force is a committee focusing on technical issues related to wind turbines. Issues in the Technical Task Force cover a wide range of topics from cyber safety to icing warning systems. A seat in the committee is reserved for turbine manufacturers and other members are selected in the normal way on the basis of an application. This committee operates in English
