According to the electricity statistics of the Finnish Energy, the production of Finnish wind power increased by 41 percent last year compared to the previous year. In 2022, 14.1 percent of Finland’s electricity consumption was covered by wind power.
Finnish wind turbines produced 11.5 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity in 2022. During the year, the electricity consumption of the whole of Finland was a over 80 TWh, and wind power covered 14.1 percent of this. 16.7 percent of electricity production was covered by wind power. The amount of wind power production increased by as much as 41 percent compared to the previous year. Based on the wind power projects under construction, it is known that by 2028, wind power will cover at least 28 percent of Finland’s electricity consumption.
“The strong growth of Finnish wind power production comes exactly at the moment when it is most needed,” says Anni Mikkonen, CEO of the Finnish Wind Power Association. “Our country’s wind power capacity has increased rapidly in recent years, and it is now also beginning to show itself as a strong increase in production. It’s great that the industry can respond quickly to the Finns’ wish to get more wind power to Finland,” continues Mikkonen.
